Aromatherapy

‘Treatment using Scents’

What is it? Aromatherapy uses essential oils, which are the natural aromatic compounds found in herbs, plants, flowers, fruits and in the bark, roots and resin of some trees. In holistic treatments the oils help to improve health and emotional wellbeing and restore balance to the body. Aromatherapy is designed to treat the whole body, it aims to assist the body’s natural abilities to heal, rest and recover from stress and illness and is one of the most popular forms of complementary therapy.

How does it work? Essential oils enter the body through inhalation and by absorption through the pores of the skin. They are carried around the bloodstream to all areas of the body where they react with body chemistry in a similar way to drugs. Aromatic signals are sent to the limbic system of the brain where they exert a direct effect on the mind and the emotions. Certain oils have a connection with particular areas of the body and can have a balancing, sedative or stimulating effect.

Why Aromatherapy? There are so many health concerns that aromatherapy can help with; stress, anxiety and depression, muscular aches and pains, headaches, migraines and insomnia, skin complaints such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis, painful or absent periods, PMT, menopause symptoms, digestive concerns, chest complaints, coughs, the common cold and so many more.

Aromatherapy is a beautiful, restorative treatment and when combined with the benefits of massage, it nourishes both mind and body, here at Scent and Soothe we offer a range of aromatherapy treatments all of which can be tailored to you and your needs.

We would love to introduce you to the benefits of aromatherapy, to talk through any concerns you may have regarding your health and wellbeing and work with you to devise a treatment plan that places you at the very centre, whether that is a full body massage, a part body treatment, indian head massage, meditation infused with essential oils, breath-work, or products for you to take away and use at home, the possibilities are endless and all treatments are individual.
